Julia Turshen’s Radicchio + Roasted Squash Salad & Hosting a Stress-Free Thanksgiving | omgfood.com

Hello, friends! Can you believe Thanksgiving is officially less than two weeks away? Time is such a trip, right!? If you’re planning to host a Friendsgiving before (or during) Thanksgiving proper, or are planning to host a foodtastic event the day of, this post is most definitely for you. And I am very excited to get into this!

I partnered up with one of my favorite brands, OXO, to share some quick tips on hosting a stress-free Thanksgiving. They sent me a few awesome goodies, including a copy of Julia Turshen’s new cookbook Now & Again. I’m going to talk about Julia’s Thanksgiving menu and will be sharing a recipe from the book, too! Hint: the recipe is for the radicchio and roasted squash salad in case that wasn’t obvious from the blog post title 😉 (it’s also pictured on the cover of the book).

A Day in the Life of a Food Blogger: Cleaning Edition

Published: Apr 27, 2018 · Last updated: Nov 23, 2019 by Marissa

A Day in the Life of a Food Blogger: Cleaning Edition | omgfood.com

Can I safely ask if winter is over yet? We finally had some warm weather in Boston this past week and I even had the windows open at home for some of the days! I haven’t put the snow gear away yet though because I’ve already learned that lesson from every other year in April.

Jay and I started some Spring cleaning at home and while I don’t love cleaning per se, I do love purging things that are no longer needed and giving the apartment a refreshed feel. I’m reorganizing my office this Sunday and am super stoked about that!

While Spring cleaning comes around roughly once a year for us, you know what’s never-ending? Dishes. Especially as a food blogger! Whomp whomp.

I thought it would be kind of cool to start a series of some sort: A Day in the Life of a Food Blogger! How unoriginal, right? 🤣

I don’t have a timeline for this series, but I’ll post some articles as I think of them. Today, I’m starting it off with the dirty, grimy part of being a blogger: washing the dishes and keeping things clean and tidy (with a little Spring cleaning tied in).

I’m also doing this with a little bit of help from OXO and method, so let’s get started!

Simple Outdoor Entertaining | omgfood.com

Hello, hello!

It’s August, you guys. How did that happen? This summer is sort of speeding by and I still need a lot more beach time.

It’s no secret that summer is my favorite season. I’ll take the heat over cold weather any day, especially if there’s a beach, pool, or outdoor lounging area involved. This season makes me the happiest. /swoon

One of my favorite things about summer that pairs really well with outdoor lounging is entertaining outdoors myself, and in this post, I’m going to share a few things that can help you with your own outdoor entertaining….

Food Prep: Washing and Storing Kale

Published: Aug 2, 2017 · Last updated: Aug 2, 2017 by Marissa

Here’s a simple guide on washing and storing kale. Do this to help with quicker cooking throughout the week!

Food Prep: Washing and Storing Kale | omgfood.com

It’s food prep time, friends! Today, we’re talking about washing and storing some leafy greens – kale, in particular!

Kale has been a bit “trendy” as far as food trends go because of it being an excellent source of nutrients, which is cool and all, though I admit I don’t always get “food trends.” I’m just one of those people who likes kale. ????…

Spring Cleaning and Organizing the Pantry

Published: Apr 5, 2017 · Last updated: Apr 5, 2017 by Marissa

It’s time for some spring cleaning and organizing! Let’s do this.

Spring Cleaning and Organizing the Pantry | omgfood.com

Oh, hello!

It’s been a little while, hasn’t it? I like to disappear every so often, so I can make a grand re-entrance! It makes things much more exciting.

Life got unexpectedly hectic the last several weeks and I promise to spill all of the details very soon. In the meantime, let’s talk about spring!

It’s officially spring, regardless of what the weather is like outside right now. And what usually pairs well with this season (besides tasty seasonal fruits and veggies, obviously)? Cleaning and organizing! Huzzah!

Because of the craziness that was my life over the last couple of months, I became slightly irresponsible with keeping things, um, tidy. I may or may not have a basket of clean laundry that has been sitting there, unfolded, for days. Oops.

Something else at OMGfood headquarters that has become a bit unruly: the pantry.

At some point in the last several weeks, Jason and I both got lazy about how and where we stored the goods. We have a relatively small kitchen and pantry, with only so much room to store canned and dry goods. It got to the point where I was forgetting just what we had because food was hiding behind other food! No good, friends. No good.

We decided enough was enough and attacked the pantry. We also gave the kitchen a good cleaning, because whoa, did that room need it. With the help of some products from OXO, we made things tidy again. And life was good.

I documented the experience with many photos below. Hilarity will ensue!

Get Your Breakfast On

Get your breakfast on with OXO! Using a few awesome kitchen tools, you can have a quick and tasty breakfast in just a few minutes, allowing you to have more time in the mornings to get things done.

Get Your Breakfast On | omgfood.com

I love when things are easy, especially when it comes to food and having a pretty busy schedule. You feel me?

I’ve been falling in and out of waves of motivation these last few months. I blame a lot of it on winter because the sun is nearly non-existent and it’s cold and sometimes snowy. I am missing my beach weather like whoa, you guys. I miss the warmth. I miss the sun!

Whenever I do fall off the motivation wagon, I push myself to go back to the drawing board to get things moving again. I admit it takes me a bit of pushing! It’s so easy to stay in pajamas and plant myself on the couch to binge on games or TV all day. The struggle is real, as they say.

But once I get back into blog and life planning, I start to feel really good about things again. I also start to think of new ways to incorporate food in my daily routines, especially my morning routine! We all know how much of a morning person I’m not, right? I know I’ve mentioned this many, many times in the past. Weekday morning food for me needs to be fast, easy, and delicious. These terms are non-negotiable. …

Food Prep: Chopping and Storing Onions

Published: Nov 6, 2016 · Last updated: Feb 15, 2017 by Marissa

Chopping and storing onions for future use is convenient and is a huge time saver when it comes to cooking. If properly stored, chopped onions will last up to ten days in the refrigerator.

Food Prep: Chopping and Storing Onions | omgfood.com

Hello, friends!

Got about ten minutes, a couple of onions, and an airtight storage container? Because I’m about to share a tip with you that will help cut down your prep time for cooking throughout the week! You’ll also need a chef’s knife and cutting board, but I’m gonna go ahead and assume you have those tools already. 😉

Today, we’re talking about chopping and storing onions for future cooking use! According to the National Onion Association, onions are the third most consumed vegetable in the United States. That’s not all surprising, right? Can you picture a world without onions? They’re such a common staple in lots and lots of savory dishes.

With onions being one of the more popular cooking ingredients, I find them to also be one of the most annoying to deal with (I’m not crying; you’re crying). They’re definitely up there on my list of least favorite ingredients to prep. That said, I love eating them….

How To Decrystallize Honey

Published: May 31, 2016 · Last updated: May 31, 2016 by Marissa

How To Decrystallize Honey | omgfood.com

If you keep honey in your pantry, there’s a high chance you’ve had some crystallize from time to time. It’s commonly assumed that crystallized honey means it’s no longer good, but that’s not the case at all! Crystallization is natural and will occur after so many months of storage, especially during temperature change. Definitely don’t throw your honey away when it happens because it’s still delicious.

Crystallized honey can be eaten as is and makes a tasty spread on toast. But you might need honey in its liquid state for baking/cooking reasons. So we’re going to talk about decrystallizing that honey!

By the way, I’m convinced that “decrystallize” isn’t a real word, but I’m still going to use it. Also, it’s fun to say….

Why I Love Thrive Market: Shopping For Healthy Food At Wholesale Prices

Published: May 9, 2016 · Last updated: May 2, 2018 by Marissa

Thrive Market is an online marketplace selling natural and organic goods at wholesale prices. It’s basically a BJ’s or Costco and Whole Foods combined and it’s my favorite place to shop for pantry items. Please note: this is not a sponsored post, though there are affiliate links. All opinions are my own.

Why I Love Thrive Market: Shopping For Healthy Food At Wholesale Prices | omgfood.com

What up, what up, what up!?

I’m pretty stoked to finally talk about my love for Thrive Market today, you guys. I’ve been a member since last September and it quickly became my favorite place to shop for all of my pantry items. I’ve been telling myself I would write a post about it for months, but we all know how I get, right? Queen of procrastination.

Thrive Market first came to be in November, 2014 with a mission to make healthy living affordable and easy. If Costco and Whole Foods had a baby, that would basically be Thrive Market, except all of the shopping is done online. And they don’t sell any perishable items.

Like Costco, Thrive Market is a membership community and charges a membership fee of $59.95 per year (that’s $5 per month) and comes with a free 30-day trial when you make your first purchase. Also, for every paid membership Thrive gets, they donate a membership to a low-income family, which is friggen awesome….

How To Clean Your Microwave

Published: Mar 9, 2014 · Last updated: Nov 6, 2016 by Marissa

DSC_0190

Lemons are awesome – and not just because they add flavor to food and drinks. They are a natural cleaning agent and we like that; especially for appliances such as microwaves! Whether you use a microwave daily or occasionally, food will likely splatter all over the place and if you’re like me, you don’t clean it when that happens. Instead, you’ll continue using the microwave and the food will continue to splatter. Eventually, the ceiling, walls, and floor of that microwave are covered with gunk and it’s pretty nasty looking.

When that happens, you might dread the thought of having to clean it because everything is just kind of stuck to the walls and you think you’ll have to scrub and scrub forever right? Nope! You won’t have to do any of that. Cleaning a microwave with a lemon is a pretty common trick, but if you don’t know of it, I’m about to blow your mind….
